Editing new music with Harry Connick, Jr.
Babe Elaboratio is the title of HCJ’s new work, a deeply emotional dedication to his late mother. Set to premiere at Carnegie Hall in May 2026, the music is presented as a piano concerto for orchestra and big band. It’s an amazing work, full of colours, codes, and surprises.
Orchestra Victoria sound excellent on this, as does the big band, comprised of Harry’s regular rhythm section and lead players, fleshed out with some of Melbourne’s finest. Alex Stinson did a great job recording the ensemble at Iwaki Auditorium.
Harry and I spent three very solid days in the studio editing together a mammoth session that had 90+ tracks and 200+ playlists per track. The drives have now been sent to Tracey Freeman, an amazing mixer and long-time collaborator of Harry’s.
Can’t wait to hear the finished record!
